| PCC Mark Shelford has welcomed a national rollout of free call blocking units to help protect people falling victims to phone scams.Led by the National Trading Standards (NTS) Scams Team and in partnership with trueCall Secure+, the aim of the rollout is to prevent the public, especially vulnerable individuals, from receiving phone calls from fraudsters who are looking to obtain personal or financial information.
A call blocker is a unit that filters out unwanted scams and nuisance phone calls from a landline phone (the unit does not work with mobile phones). In previous call block projects run by the NTS Scams Team, the units have blocked 91% of scam and nuisance calls. The unit plugs into an existing landline phone and phone line, and can work alongside broadband and lifeline pendant devices that are already installed. Those interested can find out more about call blocking units and how they work in the link below. https://www.friendsagainstscams.org.uk/cbvideo and a PDF at call-blockers.pdf You can check your eligibility for a free call blocker, please start the questionnaire on the Friends Against Scams website. Here: https://www.friendsagainstscams.org.uk/callblocker. (If you find you need help to complete this form please reply to this email and I will assist you – Lesley Webb) PCC Mark Shelford said: “It’s great to see that NTS Scams Team have received funding to rollout call blockers, a key tool to help prevent people from falling victim to scammers and rogue traders. “Heartless fraudsters have no qualms targeting those most vulnerable in our communities so it is more important than ever that we take steps to help protect people. If you or a loved one is interested in a free call blocker, please do visit the Friends Against Scams website to find out more.” |

Yoga with Terry
When I don’t stretch & move my body for a few days, I know about it!
There are the physical niggles – tight muscles, stiffer joints…
Yoga eases out all of these tight spots, and strengthens my weaker areas.
Yoga also gives me precious time to stop moving too. To be really still – and to loosen the grip that my thoughts have on things too.
Yoga gives me time to be.
Come and join me for a drop in session next week…
On Monday in Wootton Courtenay or Wheddon Cross Village Halls.
Or on Friday in the Good Vibe Veg field at Horner Farm!

Consultation on the future management of the Wootton Ridge, Somerset
The landowners on Wootton Ridge (including areas of Alcombe Common, Hopcott Common, Wootton Courtenay and Grabbist Hill), in association with Butterfly Conservation, are considering how best to carry out future management to improve the open areas of the site for people and wildlife. They have contracted Footprint Ecology to assist with the consultation, and an online presentation about the site and other background information can be found at www.exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk/living-and-working/management-of-wootton-ridge.
The consultation period runs from Monday 14th August to Saturday 30th September 2023, after which a suite of preferred options for future management, in the light of the views you and others provide, will be identified (at that point we will be in touch with you again).
The landowners are seeking the best solutions for the future management of the open areas of Wootton Ridge and the widest consensus on how this can be achieved. Please help us by giving your views and ideas. Please do this by emailing Fenella Lewin at commons@footprint-ecology.co.uk.
Additionally, following on from a conversation with Emma Bishop (Ecologist at Footprint Ecology), we attach a copy of the poster.
