Somerset Day

With just over 40 days to go until Somerset Day, we officially launch our 2023 campaign on 2nd April and we need your help please !

In conjunction with BBC Radio Somerset, we’re aiming to host Somerset’s BIGGEST EVER Quiz – a virtual and actual pub quiz that will take place on Friday 12th May between 7pm and 9pm. Anyone can join in and take part in the quiz hosted live by BBC Radio Somerset, but the quiz isn’t going to be limited to the BBC Radio Somerset – we  want to encourage pubs, village halls, community centres, schools, care homes, in fact anywhere, to take part by hosting a quiz on the same night and at the same time and raise funds for local good causes.

You can help by –

  • Organising a quiz on your premises or in a community centre or local pub
  • Encouraging colleagues, friends, communities and organisations to take part by joining the live quiz on BBC Radio Somerset
  • Getting them to organise a quiz in their local pub, village hall, community centre, school, care home etc
  • Posting the attached graphics on your Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn channels (with a link to the downloads on the Somerset day website)
  • Putting the Get Involved poster up in your business, on your village or town notice boards and in your local pub
  • Giving the poster to your local school and encouraging them to take part

You can download the following assets here https://www.somersetday.com/about/take-part-somerset-day –

Be a good egg this Easter and recycle more

The long Easter weekend is fast approaching and this will bring a change to waste collections.

Collections will now be:

·     Good Friday 7 April: Friday collections take place on Saturday 8 April.

·     No collections on Easter Monday 10 April.

·     Easter week collections are one day later, including Friday collections on Saturday 15 April.

Along with changes to collections, Somerset Council are asking residents to be “good eggs” this Easter and recycling as much as possible.

Almost all Easter egg packaging can be recycled in weekly kerbside collections.

 ·     Cardboard box – flattened and into your black recycling box.

·     Aluminium foil – scrunched and into your Bright Blue bag.

·     Plastic mould – into your Bright Blue Bag.

Not yet recyclable at the kerbside or our recycling sites are chocolate bar and sweet wrappers, plastic bags and plastic-foil pouches, plastic ‘windows’ in boxes, and similar thin-soft plastic film.

Many of these plastics can be dropped off at supermarkets like TESCO

You can use the My Collection Day feature at www.somerset.gov.uk/waste to check your collection days online, download a printable calendar or, better still, add your dates to the calendar on your smart device or laptop.

For the latest news, information about services and ways to reduce waste, follow @somersetwaste on Facebook and Twitter.
