ECO TIMBERSCOMBE MEETING

MONDAY 18TH OCTOBER, 7.30pm

TIMBERSCOMBE VILLAGE HALL

This will be the first meeting of Timberscombe people who would like to develop positive local community responses to the climate and environmental emergency.

The group will look at ways to reduce our carbon footprint and promote biodiversity throughout the parish, as well as exploring energy- and money-saving ideas such as community purchases of solar panels, insulating houses, and improving local transport.

Projects this autumn include sowing wildflowers and also planting the trees the village has been allocated by the Queen’s Green Canopy scheme to celebrate next year’s Platinum Jubilee.

There’s already a lot going on locally, and there’s plenty of support available, both advisory and financial.  The Climate Change Team at Somerset West and Taunton Council are keen to help, as are the Somerset Climate Action Network, Somerset Wildlife Trust, and West Somerset Green Forum (was Forum 21); even the National Lottery is offering funding.  And our Parish Council, in company with County, District, Town and Parish councils throughout the UK, has declared a Climate and Environmental Emergency and is committed to following the Government guidelines to encourage practices to mitigate climate change and promote biodiversity and nature regeneration.

With enthusiasm, ideas and willing hands, we can make a difference.

Please come along, and invite others you know who might like to join us.

Weekly Covid Update – Somerset

Covid-19 case rates in educational settings remain on the increase across Somerset and the South-West, with the majority of cases in the 5 – 18-year age group, representing 60 percent of all Somerset cases at present.   It therefore remains extremely important for children over the age of 11 who attend school or college, along with their parents or carers and school staff, to do a lateral flow test twice a week to help children continue to receive their education, by preventing the spread of Covid-19 in educational settings.  We are also reminding parents to ensure children have a face covering to wear on school transport, to help protect the drivers and other children from catching Covid-19, and to keep the school buses running.

Still worried about a vaccination?

From: Helen Fielden <Helen.Fielden@sparksomerset.org.uk>

Vaccination Buddies are still here to help people to make informed decisions about their COVID-19 vaccination; they can even help Portuguese and Polish speakers!

In Somerset, the majority of adults have now had both their Covid-19 jabs, but there are some people who don’t feel comfortable with the vaccination. Have you encountered people who have questions and concerns about the Covid-19 vaccine that you haven’t had the time or knowledge to answer? Or maybe you have some questions yourself? We can help!

Our team of Vaccination Buddy volunteers can offer 1-2-1 advice over the phone to anybody in Somerset who is worried about having the vaccine, or maybe their second jab.

Vaccination Buddies come from all walks of life and can speak a range of languages including Dutch, Portuguese, German, Polish, Italian and French. They have undergone full training from Public Health at Somerset County Council. They cannot however, offer medical advice.

You can request a phone call with a Vaccination Buddy VIA THIS FORM. (Referral forms also available in Polish and Portuguese. )We will then get in touch to arrange a suitable time.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

RAPHAEL REVEALED  @ Regal Theatre, Minehead

The Regal Theatre is delighted to announce it is now bringing international art exhibitions to Minehead, beginning with Raphael Revealed, on Tuesday 12th October at 7.30 pm.

Marking the 500th anniversary of Raphael’s death, the greatest exhibition ever held of his works took place in Rome, with Exhibition on Screen (EOS) granted exclusive access to this once-in-a-lifetime show.

With over two hundred masterpieces, including paintings and drawings – more than a hundred brought together for the first time – and loans from the Louvre, Uffizi, National Gallery of Art, the Prado Museum and more, the exhibition and this film provide an unprecedented opportunity to see the breadth of Raphael Sanzio da Urbino’s skill, creativity and ingenuity.

Award-winning director Phil Grabsky provides a fresh look at this giant of the Renaissance and shows why he is considered one of the all-time greats.  The film covers Raphael’s life in Rome, including unique footage of the ancient Rome that was such a powerful influence, including rare footage of Nero’s Golden House that Raphael himself visited.

More than just a painter, Raphael was one of the most extraordinary artists of the Renaissance but is often misunderstood or mythologized. This extraordinary exhibition allows Raphael, for the first time, to be truly revealed.

‘‘… the most influential of European artists and his works still speak to us today…” FT Weekend

Tickets costing £10 and may be purchased online at www.regaltheatre.co.uk or from the Regal Box Office – opening hours are 9.30am to 12.00pm Monday to Saturday or by telephone only (01643 706430) from 1.30pm to 4.00pm.  Runtime 93 minutes.

Other forthcoming EOS exhibitions to be screened at the Regal Theatre Minehead include The Danish Collector: Delacroix To Gauguin on Tuesday 30th   November 2021 and Pissaro: Father Of Impressionism, Tuesday 24th May 2022.

TIMBERSCOMBE EXHIBITION 2021

The full scope of the talents of the residents of Timberscombe was on display at the Village Hall on Saturday and Sunday. Crafts of all sorts, some of which were for sale, made for a very colourful show.

Thank you to the 20 plus exhibitors plus all the visitors who came to view . Thanks should also go to Mr. B with his coffee wagon , serving lovely beverages and cakes. It was a very happy occasion, particularly after all the months of not being able to get together.

Next year, hopefully, we shall be able to hold a normal Timberscombe Show and if anyone has ideas for new classes or changes in the format, we would love to hear from them.
