The new Bright Blue Bags will be arriving on doorsteps from the week beginning 7 February onwards but should not be put out for collection until the first new collection day. Covid Updates

This week, certain regulations were eased and we returned to ‘Plan A’. The full, updated guidance can be found here. Covid-19 case numbers have increased slightly in the last week and remain high. The main changes were: Venues and events are no longer required by law to check visitors’ NHS Covid Pass. The Pass can still be used on a voluntary basis.The government is no longer asking people to work from home if they can. People should now talk to their employers to agree arrangements to return to the office. Face coverings are no longer advised for staff and pupils in secondary school and college classrooms. Face coverings are no longer advised for staff and pupils in communal areas of secondary schools, nor for staff in communal areas of primaries. There is no longer a legal requirement to wear a face covering. The government suggests that you continue to wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces.

With the numbers still high in Somerset it is important for us now to focus on living safely with Covid-19 moving forward and so the following simple guidance and advice remains: If you haven’t yet had a vaccination you should step forward, whether it’s a first dose, second dose or booster. Please check here for full booking details. Please continue to take regular lateral flow tests – particularly before meeting others. These can be ordered here. Also, remember to report your test results here. Wear a well-fitting face-covering when in enclosed spaces such as supermarkets and try to meet others outside or ensure there is good ventilation when meeting inside. If you have any Covid-19 symptoms you need to take a PCR test. If you test positive, you must self-isolate. Keep your hands clean by washing often with soap and water or using an antibacterial handwash, this protects against a lot of infectious diseases.

The Minehead Library has been found a temporary new home, and re-opened at the Seahorse Centre on Stephenson Road, Minehead. There is also a car-park for users on-site. More information about the service and upcoming events can be found at the Minehead Library Facebook Page.

England to return to Plan A on Thursday 27 January

The Government has announced that England will fully return to Plan A on Thursday 27 January thanks to the success of the booster programme, with ministers urging anyone who has still not had a top-up jab to come forward and Get Boosted Now.

People will no longer be advised to work from home, face coverings will no longer be mandatory in indoor venues, and organisations will be able to choose whether to require NHS Covid Passes.

Reporting a problem on the road

Alerting SCC to potholes or a host of other problems on the road is now easier and quicker – and you can track its progress after you’ve reported it. Gone is the need to make phone calls or send emails – thanks to a new upgraded online system with an improved interactive map, members of the public can report a problem 24/7 and the Highways team will get on the case. From potholes, blocked drains and broken manhole covers, to overgrown vegetation, damaged pavements or cycle paths, faulty traffic lights or missing markings – they can all be reported in just minutes from a smartphone, tablet or computer.

The new development means that if you’re reporting a fault, you can now track its progress. If it’s safe to pull over, all you need to do is take a quick picture of the fault, then visit the Report It site on your phone, answer a few simple questions and upload your picture. You’ll be sent a link which enables you to track its progress.

Police Alert

We have been made aware that the TV Licencing scam email appears to be going round again, no doubt a lot of you may have seen this before, if you have not, an example of what to look out for is attached to this alert. It is worth noting it may look different in other versions of the scam so do please remain alert and watch out for the obvious errors, such as:

– Sent from a random email address

– Spelling mistakes

– Poor grammar

– Obvious attempts to gain your personal details

A second scam has also been highlighted following fraudsters claiming to represent the Postcode Lottery. A withheld number called one of our members stating they had won £349 and an amount of Holiday vouchers. As the call progressed the NHW member began to suspect all was not as it seemed and at the point the gentleman with the oversees accent asked for updated bank details the call was fortunately terminated.

Do please remain aware of these attempts and if in any doubt, stop and check.
