Somerset’s Covid 19 Weekly Update

We are seeing a general trend of increased transmission in Somerset, across all age groups and within all districts. As of Friday 30th October, Somerset’s seven day infection rate was 67.1 new cases per 100,000.  Between 18 October and 25 October, there were 381 new confirmed cases in the county.  This week we can see an increase in the proportion of tests that are coming back positive; this shows us that the right people are getting a test, but also that our infection rates are increasing. Wootton Christmas Fair

The annual Wootton Courtenay Christmas Fair will be held via the village website this year.  If you, or someone you know, would like to use this opportunity to advertise their wares, please get in touch.  You don’t have to live in the village to take part – this is open to any local craftsperson.  The deadline for submissions is Friday 6th November.

To take part, please send:

A PDF showing photographs and descriptions of goods, prices, and contact details so that customers can place orders.

or, if you have a website –

A brief description of the goods offered, a photograph of a typical piece of work, and a link to your website.

Once the list has been compiled, I will send out a Christmas Fair email to the village, listing each seller’s speciality and providing links to their individual PDFs/websites. Customers can then use the contact details on a seller’s PDF to place an order, or visit their website.

In addition to the village email, I will also put a clickable link to the message about the fair on the Home page of the Wootton Courtenay website until December 24th.

Send your PDF to contact@woottoncourtenayvillage.co.uk . Remember to include your name and relevant contact details. Please note that, in doing so, you consent to your details being published on the website within the Christmas Fair message.

Please contact me on the above email address if you have any questions.  To see the full message on the website, use this link: https://woottoncourtenayvillage.co.uk/2020/10/15/wootton-courtenay-online-christmas-fair/

Murder investigation launched after death in Dunster.

A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a woman in Dunster. Officers were called by the ambulance service to an address in the St Georges Street area at about 3am on Thursday 29 October where she was found seriously injured. Despite medical attention, she was pronounced dead at the scene. A man in his 70s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. A post-mortem will be carried out. Formal identification has not yet taken place. Detective Inspector Neil Meade said: “This is a serious incident, which has tragically led to the death of a woman. Her family have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers. “A police cordon has been set up while investigation and forensics work is carried out. “Although our investigation is at an early stage, we believe at this time it is an isolated incident. “Nevertheless, additional patrols will be carried out in the area over the coming days and I’d urge anyone with concerns about what happened to speak to officers, who will be able to provide any advice necessary.”
Anyone who may have information that could assist our enquiries is asked to contact the Major Crime Investigation Team on 101, giving the call-handler reference 5220244707.
