Fake emails

Two different people in Wootton Courtenay have received emails appearing to come from Veronica Clegg, asking for help to buy an Amazon gift card.

These emails are fake and should be ignored.

It is assumed that if you did buy a gift card you would then be asked to send it onwards to someone who would be the perpetrator of the fake emails.

The fake emails have come from a gmail account, whereas Veronica’s actual email address is with Yahoo.

Thank You All

I am the local Fundraising Manager at CLIC Sargent. I’m getting in touch to say a massive thank you for your collection at the Lion Inn. I hear it was raised in the form of a swear jar! Well, I’m happy to report that it has raised £112.44 worth of swear words on its recent collection! This could pay for a family to stay for free, in one of our ‘Homes from Home’ for three nights, enabling them stay close to where their child receives cancer treatment. The money will be recorded towards Duncan’s Support Me Fund.

I’m so sorry to hear that Covid has had an affect on the pub’s ability to reopen. I do hope things improve for you and you’re able to be open soon.

Thank you again for supporting CLIC Sargent and young lives v cancer.

Police Alert

Nottingham Knockers

There have been reports of “Nottingham Knockers” operating in the Allerford / Porlock area. A man described in his 30s with a large Black Rucksack with no valid ID, with only his driving licence. These are cold callers who usually tell residents that they are ex-offenders trying to go straight, then try and sell poor quality and over-priced cleaning products. The police want to remind residents they are under no obligation to answer the door to anyone they don’t know or aren’t expecting. If you do talk to them, they are supposed to be able to provide a valid Pedlar’s Certificate and should leave your property when asked.

Remember with the current ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, you cannot guarantee a safe distance or cleanliness of any purchases made.

Police always recommend using a door chain and asking to see the identification of unexpected callers.

• If you are suspicious of a caller ring 999 straight away • keep your cash in the bank, not at home • keep windows and doors secured if you’re not in the room

Remember, genuine callers:

• expect you to check their identification before opening the door • would never try to rush you by claiming there’s an emergency • will happily make an appointment to come back when you can have a relative or friend with you
