Burglary at Brookside Farm

Last Wednesday night, an outside security light was damaged and a Stihl petrol chainsaw was stolen from a shed at Brookside Farm, Wootton Courtenay.

Please make sure your sheds and outhouses are secure overnight, and be vigilant.

If you see a crime in action ring 999.

Somerset Loft Insulation Scam Warning

Numerous residents in the Somerset area have reported that they have received telephone calls from individuals who claim to be from government funded companies and that they needed to make an appointment so they could inspect their loft insulation.

A check online reveals that there have been reports from residents all over the country who have had similar calls, so it is highly likely that this is a scam and your area could be approached soon.

Always be wary of any cold callers, whether in person, by email or by phone. Never give out any personal details, especially financial information. If you have any concerns, hang up and contact the company or business the caller claims to represent using a telephone number from a phone book or old invoice or letter. You should always wait at least five minutes before making this call as the fraudster may still be on the line. If possible, use a different phone such as a mobile.

If you have any information regarding these incidents contact the Police on 101. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111

A Sad Day

🦁To all our lovely customers!

Richard & I are both very sorry to say, and with a heavy heart, we will no longer be Landlord & Landlady at The Lion Inn.

The Corona Virus has stopped our adventure in its tracks.

No one could have predicted these unprecedented times and there shows no signs of pubs being able to run profitably and safely in the near future. We have tried to keep this family business going as it has been a dream and a passion of ours. Unfortunately due to financial and government restraints, we have no option but to move on.

We feel very privileged to have had our time in this vibrant village and to make this pub part of a community hub again. We hope you have enjoyed us being here, making you proper tasty food, serving you plentiful pints and pouring gorgeous Gins!

We are sure that you will welcome Malc & Jude back with open arms once Boris has given pubs the thumbs up.

We shall take away many happy memories of fun times over the years, and we have certainly made lots of new friends.

Look after yourselves and thank you again,

Theresa & Richard
