Minehead Recycling Shut

UPDATE: Due to the large number of users at recycling sites, it has been impossible to maintain the required social distancing to ensure the safety of both our teams and users of the facilities. In order to protect members of the public and employees, all 16 recycling sites will be closed until they can be operated safely. In the meantime, it is strongly recommended that everyone should follow the Government advice and stay at home.

DO NOT ACCEPT UNSOLICITED HELP FROM PEOPLE YOU DON’T KNOW

Message from the Neighbourhood Watch Team

During this challenging period, it is heartening to hear lots of stories of kindness from friends and neighbours caring for one another. This is where many Neighbourhood Watches have excelled in looking after the elderly and vulnerable members of their community – or simply offer to help everyone. This includes phone calls to ensure people are ok, assistance with appointments and the collection of groceries and medications.

We must however remain vigilant and rely upon those we know and trust. I have learnt today of a couple of incidents where callers have arrived on doorways offering to do shopping, claiming to be good Samaritans. They have taken money and a shopping list but never returned.

Unfortunately there are some people who will always take advantage of any crisis to steal from those in need. Please do not fall foul to this and only rely upon people you know or trust to help you.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH – PCSO Updates

In these worrying times , I’d just like to mention there is a coronavirus social media forum if anyone of you have facebook you can join it and offer help and support for others or if in need you can advertise on their. I appreciate not everyone has facebook so please if you or a loved one or  neighbour is in need, please feel free to contact me and if I’m able I would be happy to assist, I can’t obviously do a big shop out and about whilst working but happy to pick up odd items if people are in need. Or advertise for you for help needed on the site.

The general advice is if you have any symptoms to self isolate for 7 days if you live alone or if part of a family within your household 14 days. If over 70 they are advising non essential social contact in general whether you have symptoms or not. These guidelines can be found

I will be cancelling all beat surgeries and school visits for the time being until we have some more guidance. But please if you have any issues please feel free to contact me and on facebook or email and I will do my very best to help you.

Hygiene advice, NHS and 111: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

Mental health advice and guidance: Please direct people to the Every Mind Matters page which gives hints and tips on dealing which will help people self-isolating or feeling anxious about the COVID-19 situation https://www.nhs.uk/oneyou/every-mind-matters/

Re occurring crime prevention advice:

*Consider motion lighting, timer switches and any security measures that will help delay attempts. Make sure you lock your doors and don’t leave them unlocked. Keep sheds and outbuildings locked and secure and items out of sight.

*On Exmoor I offer a Free Farm and Horse watch scheme, this is a free service and involves me registering the person on the scheme to receive updates just as you do as coordinators, advising them of any farm or horse related thefts and crimes. If you or anyone you know would be interested in this scheme please pass on my details.

*I also have a work Facebook account under PCSO Linda Brooks and can easily be contacted on here.  The Facebook site is working really well and I have received great feedback from it. The Facebook site is not to report crime on but general enquiries and a place where I can advertise beat surgeries and any information of relevance. Feel free to add me.

Thank you for all of your Support as Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators.

Stay safe,  PCSO Linda Brooks

ONLINE HEALTH & WELLBEING SERVICES

Due to the current unsettling circumstances I wanted to let everyone know that there is help at hand online for you in the comfort of your home.

A lot of people are feeling very anxious and stressed about the situation, the restrictions and mostly about the unknown. Its so important we stay well in mind, body and spirit at the best of times but particularly now. Our physical health is very closely linked to our mental wellbeing and we all need to find ways to steady and balance the effects of the current situation.

Negativity can breed dis-ease and so positive thoughts and actions can be like a medicine for us. There is much I can do to help you to help yourself!

Some of the wellbeing services available online:

  • A Guided Relaxation10 minute mindful visualisation to reduce anxiety, stress and for having some peaceful time out. This service can be by phone or via the computer. Cost £5 per session.

  • MINDFUL WELLBEING COACHING – Practical health enhancing coping techniques, guided relaxation exercises, information and wellbeing guidance. Costs30 mins – £3060 mins£45

It also can help improve focus, concentration, inner resilience, creative thought and very importantly, lift our spirits! COSTS=60 mins = £48.00 per person Couple teaching (reduced price). This is not a guided relaxation session, you are taught a practice that you can use on your own (I just wouldn’t be without mine)!

Wishing you wellness.
