You may remember the Ecclesiastical draw many of us entered for a £1000 prize to be drawn at random, which St Petrock’s was successful in earlier this year.

Ecclesiastical Insurance are running a very similar competition which is so easy to enter and requires nothing more than lots of nominations to stand a chance of winning. The fact we were successful before does not preclude us from entering this competition which is drawn next month. Nominations need to go in now as the draw starts 1^st December.

The PCC applied to the NCT for a grant to help with the cost of providing modern facilities in our village church. We were thrilled to learn in August that our application was successful and an award has been made for £10,000. With a project cost of £46,007 this is our most sizeable single donation to date since fundraising commenced in June 2017. We are now just under £10,000 short of the amount needed to be able to pay for the completion of the improvement which will benefit the weekly congregation, the use by the village school, the regular use by community groups and all the usual festivals and daily availability of a beautiful Listed church to the entire community and all visitors. St Petrock’s is open every day of the year. Everyone in the village should by now have received a letter from our Churchwardens with detailed information about work completed and in progress. Do visit it, do support it and help us cherish a village asset.

St Petrock’s Church PCC has won a £1,000 Movement for Good award thanks to nominations from the public.

The PCC was nominated to win a £1,000 boost as part of specialist insurer Ecclesiastical’s Movement for Good awards, which is giving £1million to charities this summer.

The money will help reach a target figure of £46,000 to provide an accessible toilet and servery in the church which will be available every day of the year to those who come to worship as well as all those who live locally or visit our community for holiday and heritage purposes on Exmoor. Fundraising has been active since June 2017 and a total of £26,000 has now been reached.

Members of the public were invited to nominate causes close to their hearts, with 500 gifts of £1,000 available for donation. St Petrock’s PCC was one more than 7,000 charities which were nominated by an amazing 98,000 members of the public to be in for a chance to win a financial boost.

The PCC is acutely aware that it is important to install an accessible toilet, bring in a water supply, provide baby changing facilities, and a small servery which will enable the continued growth of a wide variety of community activities.

John Gratton, Churchwarden, said that ‘we are now a step closer to providing modern amenities in a sympathetic and well-planned essential improvement in our church which will benefit our village and all who visit it, for whatever reason, in the future. As a capital improvement project, this is a big ask for a small village and we are all very grateful for the support which Ecclesiastical has provided and the boost it has given to our fundraising activity. On behalf of the PCC, I thank everyone who kindly voted for us to win this award.’

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) is fundraising to pay for the installation of a toilet to provide a basic amenity in a small rural village without any other publicly available facility. The church building provides a wide range of social and community activities, so it is essential that this improvement is made. The lack of a basic facility is what can prevent many people, whether attending festivals or services, school children, family groups, community events or tourists, from making the most of a beautiful Grade 1 Listed building.

The PCC has worked hard to raise £25,000 out of the £46,000 needed to install the toilet, bring in a water supply, install baby changing facilities, and a small accessible servery which will enable the continued growth of a wide variety of community activities.

A grant of £1,000 will help significantly towards reaching our target and starting the work which has been approved by the Diocese of Bath and Wells, Exmoor National Park, Historic England and others to achieve a sympathetic and modern improvement to benefit all who live in and visit Timberscombe.
