Cutcombe Hill, Cutcombe
The works are expected to commence on 15th May to 2nd June for 19 days (09:30 – 15:30) to enable Heidelberg to carry out prep and resurfacing works on behalf of Somerset Highways.
The closure will be lifted on 28th May 2025 for 1 day for Cutcombe Market.
Message from Highways:
“We understand that road closures can be inconvenient, and we have carefully considered various options to minimise disruption. Evening and night work was considered; however, due to the significant drop from the road edge down the valley, it was deemed unsafe to conduct work during these hours. Safety is our top priority, and we believe that working during daylight hours will ensure the well-being of our workers.
During the closure, an official diversion will be in place, which, under legal requirements, must be of a similar classification of road or better, i.e., another A-class road. However, due to the limited A-class network, a diversion route has been designed using the A, B, and C class network: A39 Timberscombe, Dunster, Washford, Washford Cross Roundabout, B3190 Sticklepath, B3224 Beulah Chapel, Heath Poult Cross, C200 to Machine Cross rejoining A396 at the T junction.
Alternative unsigned routes will likely be used by road users on these lesser classified routes, and if vehicles are suitable for these routes, there are no restrictions for their use. However, please be considerate of these communities.
Outside of these timings, the road will be open as normal, with warning signs of the temporary road surface and raised covers.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this period. We are committed to completing the work as efficiently as possible to restore normal traffic flow.”
The contractor has indicated that access for Emergency Services through the site is permitted on this occasion.
