I am writing to inform you that The Somerset Exmoor Targa Rally will navigate through your local area on Saturday 24th October 2026, between approximately 10:00 and will end approximately 17:30.
This event will run on the same basis and follow the same format as previous years. The rally last ran in 2024, continuing a successful tradition from the previous 14 years of running in the region. As in past years, a Targa rally involves standard, road-legal cars competing on private venues. This letter aims to provide advance notice so you can share this information with council members and local residents.
- Public Roads: As established over the last 15 years, competitors will use public highways strictly to travel between private venues. They must follow all standard traffic laws, speed limits, and quiet-zone regulations.
- Special Tests: Timed driving tests take place only within private land and off-road venues, away from public traffic.
- Expected Impact: Residents may notice a steady flow of competing vehicles. No public roads will be closed for this event.
Safety and Management
- The event is fully permitted by Motorsport UK and coordinated with the local Liaison Officer.
- We have consulted with Somerset County Council and Avon and Somerset Police.
- Clear route instructions and “Quiet Zone” markers will be issued to all crews to prevent local disturbance.
- A dedicated event official can be reached on the day on 07789 255695 for any urgent enquiries.
We want to ensure the rally runs safely with minimal disruption to your community, building on our long history of smooth operation. Please let me know if you need further details.
Yours sincerely,
Nicky Winkworth
