We are writing to introduce Community Services in West Somerset, hosted by Porlock Vale CIC, supporting people across West Somerset to live independently, safely and well at home.
With 29 years of community experience, Porlock Vale CIC provides a familiar, accessible point of contact through Porlock Information Centre, open six days a week. We share information, signpost to services and connect people with local support and through our events to reduce loneliness and isolation. Our Community Directory is distributed to 4,000 local households, helping residents access vital information.
We are developing a Trusted Local Network of Micro-Providers, working collaboratively with Somerset Council and community partners. These self-employed local people provide personalised support, from shopping, gardening and companionship to appointments and personal care, according to their skills and experience. Our Community Support Lead helps people explore their options and connect with suitable providers.
Our services also include practical help with form filling and applications for Attendance Allowance, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Blue Badges.
We are committed to prevention and wellbeing through initiatives such as Stay Stronger for Longer, encouraging people to remain active, confident and independent, and our work to raise awareness of slips, trips and falls prevention. We work with a wide range of key partners, voluntary organisations and community groups to improve connections, share expertise and make support easier to access.
Our aim is to complement existing services, strengthen local partnerships and help people find the right support at the right time.
