Police Notice

“We have lots of ways we can keep people safe in their homes. I’m proud of the work we do but will always wish there weren’t so many people who need our support to be safe.”

Our Be Home Safe team help people who are victims of crime or harassment to feel, and be, safer in their homes.

Based across Avon and Somerset, our seven Be Home Safe technicians are skilled carpenters and locksmiths who are also fully trained in crime prevention. They provide support to people who have experienced crimes such as burglary, domestic abuse, harassment, hate crime and anti-social behaviour.

Their expert knowledge and experience of practical crime reduction measures enables them to carry out assessments, fit new locks and window security, reinforce doors, and fit anti-arson products for people who are at risk of harm. They also provide crime prevention advice and support to victims during their visit. This can include signposting to support services, reassurance following the incident and sometimes being the initial contact support following a report to police.

Last year, our Be Home Safe technicians helped more than 1,400 people feel safer in their homes.

The Be Home Safe Scheme is provided to people who have been victims of crime across Avon and Somerset, with support from the Police Community Trust. Referrals are made by our officers and staff.

If you, or someone you know, would like to be referred please speak to your local neighbourhood policing team Be Home Safe Scheme | Avon and Somerset Police

New Season Car Parking Permits Announced for Exmoor National Park

If you’re bringing the car to visit Exmoor, thank you for using our car parks…

A new annual car parking permit will now be available to offer a cost-effective year-round option for selected Exmoor National Park carparks in Devon and Somerset, including Tarr Steps, Valley of Rocks and Ashcombe in Simonsbath

Access and Recreation Manager for Exmoor National Park Dan Barnett said:

“Exmoor National Park would like to send a thank you to all the residents and visitors who pay to use Exmoor NP car parking facilities. The money generated helps to support vital work across the National Park, including maintaining the car parks and toilets themselves but also educational activities for our young people and conservation, public access work and nature recovery projects.

“A great deal of work has gone into improving our visitor facilities, we hope they provide a warm welcome and help people enjoy Exmoor.

It costs us 95 thousand pounds a year just to clean and maintain our carparks and toilet facilities across the National Park including popular visitor sites like Tarr Steps and Valley of Rocks.

“This year we have also spent a further 120 thousand pounds on refurbishment works to ensure they continue to offer a high-quality experience.

We work hard to keep costs down in these challenging financial times and ensure all proceeds are put back into the national park and its facilities. The new annual pass provides a cost-effective option for our regular visitors to help us support the tireless work that goes into protecting and maintaining our wonderful National Park.”

The Exmoor National Park Annual car parking permits are available from Exmoor National Park Centres at Dulverton, Dunster and Lynmouth, or can be purchased online for £60. Each pass is valid for 12 months and can be used in up to 2 registered cars (only one at any time). Full details can be found at www.exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk/parking.

Porlock Resurfacing Work

Notice of Resurfacing of the A39, High Street, Porlock

We have received conformation from Wessex Water that the sewer line on the A39 High Street Porlock (Dunster Steep) is in a suitable condition to reline internally later in the year, and therefore will not require an open dug trench. With this information we have advised Milestone that there is no risk to the resurfacing scheme planned for the 24th – 28th April, from 6:30pm -11:30pm each evening, and to continue with delivery.

Our advance signing and VMS signs have been in place since 4th April. To date we have received one enquiry from a resident within Porlock area, whom we have been able to assist, and we will also be visiting a local business which has raised questions about our scheme.
