Police Notice

An elderly resident of a home off South Park, Minehead, was approached by two males who offered to cut down some overhanging branches. They said that the work needed to be done or the resident would get into trouble with the Council. A price of £350 was agreed for the work, but the offenders only worked for about ten minutes before packing up and asking for payment. The resident signed a blank cheque and asked the callers to fill in the rest, but fortunately the cheque hasn’t been banked.

This happened at approximately 5.30pm on Tuesday April the 15th in Minehead, but we want to remind all residents to be wary of any unexpected callers offering to do work.

Typically, rogue traders try and use people’s fear of prosecution or worry about a problem causing more damage to get residents to agree to over-priced or unnecessary work, which is often of a poor quality. Remember, genuine callers expect you to check their identification before opening the door, would never try to rush you by claiming there’s an emergency will happily make an appointment to come back when you can have a relative or friend with you.

Always use a door chain when you have unexpected callers.

If you have any information about this incident, especially CCTV images, please call us on 101, giving reference number 5225107987 and ask that the call is tagged as Neighbourhood Watch. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Taunton Park and Ride Update

For anyone who has not heard (or found out the hard way):

Due to building work, the P&R buses are being diverted but there is no signage at the hospital to say that you are waiting in vain for a bus!

Silk Mills to MPH is okay.

MPH to Silk Mills: either walk to the TA Centre to catch the bus there, OR, catch a Gateway bus, go into town, catch a Silk Mills bus back.

Town to MPH: either walk from the cemetery stop OR stay on the bus, go to Silk Mills and come back to the hospital.

We hope this helps others avoid the confusion that prevailed there today!
