Benefice news

Please find below the Benefice Bulletin for April – please also note the Holy Week program on the second page.

There is also attached a flyer about a lovely singing recital at St George’s Dunster on 12 April at 3pm, and another about a poetry reading with art evening at St Petroc’s, Timberscombe on 27 April at 6.30pm – both well worth going to!

Every blessing to you all this Holy Week, Easter and Spring!

Easter waste collections

Somerset Council has confirmed changes to waste and recycling collections over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Collections due on Good Friday (Friday 3 April) will instead take place on Saturday 4 April.

There will be no collections on Easter Monday (Monday 6 April). During the following week, all collections will take place 1 day later than usual, with Friday collections happening on Saturday 11 April.

All 16 Somerset recycling sites will also move to their spring and summer opening hours from Wednesday 1 April 2026.

From this date, sites will be open:

  • 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
  • 9am to 4pm at weekends

Opening days vary at some sites during the week, but all sites are open on Saturdays and Sundays. Residents are advised to check online for site opening days before visiting.

Recycling sites will remain open over the Easter weekend, from 9am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

To help crews complete collections as quickly as possible, residents are asked to put their boxes, bags and bins out by 7am on collection day, or the night before.

As collections are a day later than usual, higher volumes of waste are expected. Squashing, crushing and flattening items can help create more space in containers and reduce the number of trips collection crews need to make.

Check the Council’s recycling centre pages for opening schedules and online lookup for recycling and rubbish collection days.

A group of mothers have walked the 90 miles (145km) around the boundary of Exmoor National Park to raise money for their children’s schools.

The Moorland Mums group of eight women have raised more than £10,500 for the Moorland Federation, which runs nine schools in west Somerset.

“It was more about giving something back to our already brilliant schools that offer so much with small budgets and limited resources,” said Jasmine Willford from Wheddon Cross.

Naomi Philp, Executive Head Teacher at the Moorland Federation said: “The realities of school funding can limit the extent of additional enrichment opportunities and so these funds will mean a huge amount to our schools.”

Maybe we can do our bit to help them get to £15k!!!
