St Petrock’s Church

Just a reminder that this Sunday 31st, New Years’ Eve, there will be music and carols in The Lion Inn at 5pm, led by Rev Nicola. All are welcome to join in!

Thank you to everyone who came along and participated in the Christingle on Christmas Eve. I have never seen the church so full in my time in Timberscombe – it was standing room only! We are grateful to Rev Nicola for organising a wonderful family focussed service which involved support and involvement from a genuinely wide section of the community. Our thanks go to all who helped to make this such an uplifting village and all who generously supported our collection for childrens’ charities with a wonderful £307 plate total.

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!

St Petrock’s Church

On Sunday 24th December, Christmas Eve, at 5pm there will be a Christingle in the church to which everyone is welcome and families in particular. This will be led by Rev Nicola Butt and will have a family orientated theme. Like the Carol Service last Sunday, the collection plate will be divided between The Childrens’ Society and Save the Children. Last week the fabulous sum of £205 was donated after the Carol Service which was a terrific response from the village. We look forward to welcoming you this Sunday. As this is such a busy time of year, we won’t be offering refreshments after this service, or on Christmas morning at the 10am service. Thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm. On behalf of everyone on the Parochial Church Council (PCC) may we wish you all a very happy and healthy Christmas and New Year.

Warm Welcome

The last Warm Welcome on a Thursday morning this December at St Petrock’s Church will be Thursday 14th December from 10am to 12noon. These will resume on Thursday 4th January and are weekly events with hot drinks and refreshments to which all are invited at no charge. We look forward to meeting you there!

very good news for our village church!

The PCC was delighted to learn this week that the National Churches Trust has awarded a Small Grant Award of just under £2000 to enable essential maintenance works to the gutters and downpipes of the church. The PCC has worked hard to raise the 50% needed to have the NCT generously match-fund the balance. Work will commence soon and it will mean that the church continues to be dry and warm for community use as well as services and regular use by the village school.

Another piece of welcome news this week has been to hear that the Somerset Community Foundation has responded to a grant application made by the PCC for assistance with heating costs and provisions needed for the weekly term-time Warm Welcomes which the PCC and others have been running for more than a year now. A much appreciated £1000 award by the SCF will help to make sure that volunteers can continue to provide a warm and very welcoming time to anyone who might like some company and lively conversation. If you haven’t visited us already, please do so!
