Gardening Club

Don’t forget Gardening Club Monday evening in the church at 7.30pm. Janice Peters will be demonstrating floral and greenery arrangements for Christmas giving us ideas of what to do to enhance our homes for Christmas. Her arrangements will be raffled/auctioned off afterwards so bring some extra money. Refreshments afterwards, our usual raffle and remember the best flower in your garden for our competition. See you there.

All Souls’ and Remembrance Sunday

The All Souls’ Service is Sunday 2nd November at 11am when we think about those we have lost. A list is at the back of the church for anyone to add the name(s) of those they would like to have prayed for at this service.

Next Sunday, 9th November, is Remembrance Sunday and we have our annual service, which starts at 10.45 am. Our thoughts are for all those who have lost their lives in service to our country. We urge all those who have service medals awarded to them to wear them, and all those who have service medals won by family members to be worn, but, as is customary, on their left side.

After the service there will be a procession to where the ashes of Major John Timothy are interred, adjacent to our flag pole, as well as to our Commonwealth Grave.

Major John Timothy was awarded the rare distinction of three Military Crosses. His life and service has been recorded by Harvey Grenville and further information will be available in The Lion from this weekend. Harvey Grenville has also researched the life and time of the Timberscombe villagers who served in WWI. His pamphlet is available in the church.

Churchyard Clearing

We welcome any help you can offer us in the churchyard tomorrow, Saturday 1st November from 10am for 2 hours. This will be our last maintenance session this year and the help given by a large number of village volunteers over this last 12 months has been hugely appreciated. We thank you all! Kate and Marion
