History Group –

As I am sure we are all aware, Monday 19th is the day of the state funeral for the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and is a Bank Holiday.

The meeting of the History Group will go ahead that evening at 7pm in St Petrock’s Church as planned. This will be an opportunity to honour her memory together.

I look forward to seeing all those who can join us on this occasion.

Remembering Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

St Petrock’s Church and community of Timberscombe extend their sympathies to the King and Queen Consort and to all in their family at this sad time.

On Friday 9th the church bells will be tolled, half muffled, at 12 noon.

The flag will fly at half mast on Friday until Saturday 11am when it will be raised to full height to mark the new Monarch until Sunday at 1pm. Thereafter the flag will be flown at half mast and remain at this height until the day after the funeral.

A Book of Condolence will be available in the church for anyone who would like to add their name and a message. You will be most welcome so to do. The church will be open between 9am – 5pm as usual. Online national Books of Condolence will also be available.

ST PETROCK’S HISTORY GROUP

Our next meeting on Monday 19th September at 7pm will focus on some excellent research conducted by Paul Sheldon over the period of covid lockdown and beyond, to locate and identify churchyard memorials and gravestones using a systematic method.

We are delighted that he will present his work to the History Group and hope as many villagers will attend as possible to listen and see what he has prepared. All are welcome!

Read about Timberscombe’s own Lionesses in 1957!

All the girls who took part in this sporting event in 1957 have been identified, but some of the boys remain to have their names attributed. If you can help with this, please do let us know after you have read the piece on the Village History Group website available here https://stpetrockshistorygroup.omeka.net/

ST PETROCK’S GARDEN PARTY AND CREAM TEA HELD AT WATERSIDE

I would like to thank, on behalf of the PCC, everyone who made the garden party a great success.

Thank you to those who donated scones, jam, cream, raffle prizes, illustrations, gifts, books, baked goods for the cake stall, helped set up and clear away. Many hands make light work!

Thank you also to those who attended, your generosity enabled us to raise the magnificent total of £922. This will be used to replace the old tarmac and create a new path in the churchyard.

Thank you once again.

Marion Moncrieff.
