Great House Street Update

The Parish Council is very much aware of the concerns raised by residents regarding the ongoing water and ice issues in Great House Street. We have been actively pressing Somerset Highways for a resolution for more than three years. However, due to limited resources and extensive roadworks currently taking place in surrounding areas (including Cutcombe, Nutcombe and Dunster), this work was placed on a very long list of necessary roadworks.

We are pleased to confirm that the works to redirect the water to the river have now been scheduled for the 2026/27 financial year. The final solution is still under discussion, but we are hopeful that a permanent solution will be in place before next winter.

Dunster Update

Dunster traffic lights update:
Thanks again for your patience, we can report that traffic has been flowing much better through the works site due to the measures taken last week 👍
Here’s what to expect over the coming weeks:
– Mondays and Fridays: two-way traffic will be maintained, with priority given to Butlins traffic.
– Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from Tuesday 27 January: there will need to be a one-way shuttle in place at most times. We will manually control the lights at peak times to reduce queuing as much as possible. We need to do to this so we can get the work done as quickly and safely as possible – two-way traffic won’t allow us to do this.
It’s worth planning ahead on these days and factoring a slightly longer journey time – we will do our best to minimise this, but it’s important we get this work done as quickly as possible so we can get off the network.
