*On Exmoor I offer a Farm and Horse watch scheme, this is a free service and involves me registering the person on the scheme to receive updates just as you do as coordinators, advising them of any farm or horse related thefts and crimes. If you or anyone you know would be interested in this scheme please pass on my details .

*We are also asking people if there is a genuine speed issue somewhere if a speed watch can be considered this is a local community led scheme but we will offer some support and attend initially to help you get set up. The scheme needs at least 3 to 6 people to operate at any one time 3 minimum. If this is something that people would like to do they can contact me and I can explain the procedure to move forward. Site assessments need to take place by the Police to ensure that it is a suitable location.

*I also have a work Facebook account under PCSO Linda Brooks and can easily be contacted on here.  The Facebook site is working really well and I have received great feedback from it. The Facebook site is not to report crime on but general enquiries and a place where I can advertise beat surgeries and any information of relevance. Feel free to add me.

*Over the past few months we have had a few incidents not necessarily reported but noted off facebook that people has been telephoned and asked for various details bank details etc. These range from being asked to provide payment to stop criminal proceedings, from providing updates to computer systems.

The people are very clever in that they sound genuine and work on the basis that most people have computers and sound like they may be talking about their systems.

We have a booklet at the station all about Scams if you would like a free copy please let me know and I will get one to you.

Our advice is never give out any passwords pin numbers or bank details to anyone over the phone. If you have phoned a genuine company to purchase something then you know this is genuine as you’ve called them. Banks will never ask for personal bank details or passwords.

Emails are often another way of trying to Scam you such as your payment has been rejected in relation to a common bill most people have such TV licenses.

*Other crime news unfortunately Dunster Beach parking pay machine has been targeted again thankfully they didn’t get away with any money but a lot of expensive damage to the meter has occurred.

Good news a tractor that was stolen recently on Exmoor area had been located .This is the 2^nd good news story regarding stolen tractors within a few months.

Halloween was a fairly quiet one over Exmoor I’m aware of an incident involving eggs and flour at a location leading up to Halloween. But as of yet no reports of any Anti-social behaviour from the evening in the Exmoor area.

Please alert any elderly or vulnerable friends, neighbours or relatives to the following scam. Bath and North East Somerset Trading Standards have been made aware of three residents being contacted by suspected fraudsters who are claiming to be from “Bath Council”, “Safe and Secure” or “Protect Your Home UK”. The caller say that they are contacting people aged between 50 and 70 to offer home security systems. One resident was offered an ID wrist band for £1, along with a quote for floor sensors which would alert the wristband if there was a flood or fire. The other resident was offered free security equipment, £1 for installation and ongoing maintenance costs to be agreed. Both residents say the caller was extremely convincing. The caller guaranteed that police, ambulance or fire would attend an incident. The telephone number provided to residents does not work and it’s believed that this is a SCAM! This may be an attempt to get people’s bank details or to sign residents up to an expensive monthly subscription. If you have been affected by a similar telephone call, the advice from Trading Standards is to call the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 03454 04 05 06 or report it online at https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/contact-us/consumer-service/

Every copy of Timberscombe Cooks! sold out within one hour when the Village cookery book was launched last Saturday in the Village Hall. Fabulous village support meant that plenty of people came along to taste free nibbles and samples of food from recipes in the book, all provided by the volunteers who supplied the recipes which have an Exmoor twist. A terrific range of hot soups and starters were on offer, followed by meat and vegetarian main  courses and local chutney. The puddings and cakes supplied were also an example of the huge range of talent in the village.  

We are now looking into a reprint being available before Christmas for those who would still like to have a copy, or give a copy as a gift. If you would like to order any copies please let me, Gabrielle Horrobin, Joy Booth, Marion Moncrieff or Marion Jeffrey know. We are so grateful to all the lottery players who have made this unique book possible and we are putting a copy into the History Group archive as an example of what a community can achieve for future generations to look back on with interest. As an example of co-operation in our community this has been a great example of working together and having fun and enjoyment at the same time.
